A Cheshire Life magazine article titled  “Mystery of the Muzzled Bear”,            begins with the following sentence:

With a history stretching back to the Domesday Book and the foundation stone of the current hall allegedly laid by Queen Elizabeth the first, Brereton Hall is a mansion of such history and mystery, great fame and a little infamy.

This document (which contains photos) follows the history of Brereton Hall,  from the first Lord Brereton of Leighlin through the centuries until the present time. It also includes a brief history of St. Oswald parish church which is located adjacent to the Hall.
